Hakuna Haus is a boutique interior styling studio based out of Austin, Texas that specializes in building well-loved homes and connections with clients. Founded on the idea that art and design should bring peace of mind to all who encounter it, Hakuna Haus Studio began as a concept that allows room for creative growth. The word hakuna means ‘neither here nor there’ and as a creative thinker that strives to remain open-minded, the idea behind hakuna allows doors to remain open to a variety of blank spaces and canvases. The word haus refers to the clean lines and bold, graphic style of the Bauhaus movement, resulting in a give and take of freedom of expression, intentional relationships, and refined quality.

With a family lineage of craftsmen, artists, and entrepreneurs, a career in the creative arts was inevitable. Kirsten’s path began as young child when she became heavily influenced by the talented females around her. She watched her mother feverishly sketch renderings as she went back to school for interior design. Kirsten would sculpt with her grandmother and build furniture with her grandfather. She also had an eccentric middle school art teacher who encouraged her to not only make art, but to display her work with confidence.

In 2007, she obtained a degree in Visual Art Studies from The University of Texas with a plan to teach fine arts. However, post graduation she fell in love with the retailer Anthropologie. Out of pure passion & persistence, Kirsten eventually landed a job with them creating custom art installations, fashion styling, and home decor merchandising. She was with Anthropologie for over ten years, participating in multiple store openings, events, and visual management. It was there that she began to develop friendships with customers and started helping them style their homes.

As she was moonlighting as a decorator, her experience with installation art and interior styling gradually grew into full home renovations. She started Hakuna Haus Studio as a way to connect with clients full time by sharing her unique aesthetic and love for interiors.

Interior Consultation

An initial consultation is suggested prior to beginning the design process. This is a meeting with the client and designer that typically takes place within the client’s space in need of design services. A consultation includes a 1-2 hour assessment of design needs, a walk through of the space, creative discussions of design options, and a review of the client’s preferred styles, such as favorite pieces, inspirational magazine tears, and Pinterest boards.

Full Service Interior Design

Whether you are building a new home or are looking to remodel your current house, we offer interior design services customized to fit your space. Our design selections are prioritized by how you and your family function in each space, and can be broken up into phases. Each design concept includes a budget estimate, space plans, product and finish selections for paint colors, specialty finishes, lighting, hardware, window treatments, furniture, art, and décor.

E-Design Services

Do you dabble in interior design but need some help putting the pieces together? Do you live remotely but want our expertise to help design your space? Think of us as your personal, virtual designer. With your help for room measurements, product purchasing, and installation, we can provide you with a design plan that includes a vision board, space plan, rendering, and list of retail resources to help put together a new look for your space.
